The children have started to plant Sunflowers and Dwarf French Beans to take home and grow. They are planted in natural peat pots that can be planted with the seed as it grows into a bigger pot filled with compost or straight into the ground. All they need is water and sunlight. The beans should produce white flowers that the fine green bean will grow out from. These can be cooked and eaten, this is a great way to encourage the children to eat and grow a love of fresh healthy vegetables.
The children have been weeding and watering our herbs, strawberries and flowers that they planted, showing care and concern taking responsibility for nurturing the delicate plants as they grow then showing curiosity at the changes as they grow, developing a love and interest in the natural environment.
